She was born in Guatemala on January 14, 1940. She would go on to marry John DeVere on March 7, 1976, in California. Maria worked as a bookstore owner for ten years. Her passions included gardening and nannying.
Maria is survived by her children - Lidia McGinnis, Julie Mendenhall, Alfonso DeVere, and Patrick DeVere. She is also survived by her grandchildren - Nichole Anderson, Katrinna McGinnis, Ike Mendenhall, Danyelle Mendenhall, Johnathan DeVere, and Liliana DeVere; as well her great-grandchildren - Calliope Anderson and Chevelle Mendenhall. Maria is also survived by her siblings - Alfonso Castro, Carmen Crespo, Amparo Estrada; along with a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation for Maria will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Greer-Wilson Chapel, 5921 West Thomas Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85033. Following the visitation will be a committal service from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 W Van Buren St, Phoenix, AZ 85009.
