Maria Medeiros passed away at age 90 in Phoenix, AZ on February 28, 2020 in the Loving arms of her family. She was born on July 1, 1929 in Hercegfalva, Hungary to Johann and Elizabet Horvath. She left Hungary during World War II as the Germans and Russians were fighting on the family farm and surrounding areas. Her family was transported to Germany by train and settled in the small town of Weil In Schonbuch. Maria eventually got a job working in the kitchen at the local hospital. Maria’s life changed forever when she met George, the Love of her life, in 1954. George was in the U.S. Army and met Maria on a bus while traveling in Germany. Maria could speak Hungarian and German, but not a word of English. My Mom said they were able to communicate just fine as they were married soon after that for the next 55 years. They traveled the world together - living in different cities in Germany at various times, Okinawa and many different places in the United States. When George retired from the service in 1969, they moved to his home state of Massachusetts. Maria worked in manufacturing at Sterilite Corp. producing plastic goods for 10 years. They eventually retired to Phoenix, AZ in a home they had built, where they spent the rest of their married lives. Even though retired, Maria started her own cleaning business and worked part time cleaning homes in Sun City. She loved knitting, working in her yard on plants and cactus, making soups (Oma’s famous for her bean soup) and watching the church channel. Maria was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dedicated to her faith and family. Maria was preceded in death by her husband George, sister Elizabeth and brother John. She is survived by her sons Aron Medeiros (Cindy) and Roy Medeiros (Pam) and daughter Janet Babin (David); 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Ondovcik.
