

Marilyn Joyce Dorsey passed away suddenly on September 28th 2014 at Arrowhead Hospital in Glendale AZ at 83 years of age. She lived this past year with her son and daughter-in-law in Peoria AZ. She had a full life and enjoyed her family, friends, and her pets throughout her life.
She was born in Topeka, KS on March 9, 1931. She was preceded in death by her parents S LaMarr Smith and Glesona M Smith. She got married and lived in Coffeyville Kansas for ten years, and Leavenworth Kansas for 25. She worked at St. John’s Hospital in Leavenworth for 23 years as a nuclear medicine technician until she retired at the age of 65. She then moved to Phoenix to live closer to her kids after retirement.
She has three kids Elizabeth Zimmerman of Broomfield CO, David of Peoria AZ, and Stephen of Hollywood FL. She also has 4 Grandchildren, Zach Zimmerman, Hannah Zimmerman, Chuck Shields, and Heather Shields. She also has 2 Great-grandchildren, Connor Herman and Sabrina Shields.
Her father was a mechanical engineer with the Santa Fe Railroad and that is why she loved railroads her entire life.
She loved watching the Kansas City Royals and all the various Arizona sports teams.
She made several charitable donations to various organizations. Some of her favorite ones were St Vincent de Paul’s Food Bank, the Humane Society, and the Salvation Army.
She was a PTA leader, Cub Scout leader, and Girl Scout leader when her kids were young.
She loved various dogs and cats she owned throughout her life. Her favorite was K.C. (Kitty Cat) that she owned for over 15 years.
She liked discussing politics and world events. She enjoyed talking with her lady friends at the Sierra Ranch Apartments in Phoenix where she lived for several years.
She has 2 siblings, sister Barbara McCoy of Overland Park KS and LaMarr Smith of Blue Springs MO.
Her funeral is at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 W. Beardsley Road, Phoenix, AZ 85027. The service for her immediate family and friends will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 2nd. You can send flowers to the service because she loved them very much.
