

Over the course of her long and full life, Mimi gave much of her time to local charities and organizations including the Junior League, St. Vincent De Paul, the Phoenix Zoo and the St. Luke’s Board of Visitors. Mimi was a Master Gardener and a member of the Diggers Garden Club. She considered her three sons her greatest accomplishment and joy. She had countless friends in the Valley and watched Phoenix grow from a small farming community to a bustling city. She was in the first graduating class of St. Francis Elementary School, attended North High, and graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Fine Arts in 1950 where she competed as a member of the women’s tennis team. She is a former Southwestern USTA mixed doubles tennis champion. Mimi is survived by her brother George Matanovich; her three sons, William ("H"), Chris, and Matt; two daughters-in-law, Laura(Chris) and Maria(Matt); five grandchildren, Seth, Jessica, Ian, Christian, and Stefan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Mihajlo and Helen, and her beloved sister Nada Matanovich Peterson. Services will be held on Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at Brophy chapel, 4701 North Central Avenue in Phoenix. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
