

He was born on June 1, 1930 in Wisner, LA as Paul Fairmon to Cleveland Fairmon and Nellie Pinckney, and his name was later legally changed to Nathaniel Grant. He was cared for by Nathan and Martha Grant affectionately known as Matt and Batt until the age 5. He was then cared for by James Grant Sr. and Augusta Grant. Nathaniel was married on January 12, 1953 to Audrey E. Grant.
Nathaniel was a pharmacist who graduated from the University of Illinois. Later in Albuquerque he earned a doctorate degree also in pharmacy. In Chicago Nathaniel worked in the field of pharmacy at Walgreens, the University of Illinois Hospital, and Woods Pharmacy. In Arizona and California he worked for Thrifty Corporation, and taught at the University of New Mexico for a short while. In addition, during the Korean War Nathaniel served in the army as a medic.
Nathaniel had a love of collecting coins, unique rocks, and prints made by and of Native Americans. In addition, he loved to hike in particular the La Luz trail in the Sandia Mountain and even hiked to the crest at least a couple of times. Other outdoor activities included checking out the many balloons during the Albuquerque Balloon Festival as from his backyard he could see them all. He also loved gardening. He and the Mrs. grew and canned vegetables, and his cherries and white peaches were the sweetest. He also loved to make wine which was quite a potent treat.
Nathaniel’s faith was the main factor in his life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Nathaniel served as an elder in his congregation, and truly enjoyed spending time with his spiritual family. As a pioneer he enjoyed teaching interested ones about the love of the Most High, and the peace and joy that can be had by all. Nathaniel was a source of encouragement to his christian brothers and sisters, and a willing ear to those in need.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his wife Audrey, his daughter Deborah, his son Vincent, and his two brothers Earl and Clevon Fairmon. He was also preceded in death by his grandson Lawrence. In addition he was preceded in death by his adopted siblings Arthur, Ollie Mae, James Jr., and Wilbert Sebron.
Nathaniel is survived by his children Nathaniel Jr., Sharon, and Derrick Grant, and his grandchildren Ryan, Katrice, Cameron, Geoffrey, Audra, and Michael. He is also survived by his adopted siblings Lottie Jean, Ulysses and Dayton, and Jacqueline.
