

Raymond Virgil Wright, 79 of Phoenix AZ, formerly of Basehor, KS, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021. Raymond was born January 26, 1941 at home in Uniontown, KS, the son of Lawrence P. and Dessie (Hite) Wright. He grew up and attended schools in Uniontown, KS. Raymond married Delores Ard of Phoenix AZ, in Iola, KS, in August 1959. They moved to Kansas City, KS in 1961 where he worked on bridge construction in the area. In 1965 they moved to Basehor, KS where Raymond was a carpenter and built several homes in and around the Basehor / Tonganoxie area for many years. He retired from Bear & Bear Assoc. in 1997, after 22 years as a carpenter. He enjoyed retirement with Delores, visiting with family, fishing, traveling, and spending the winter months in Arizona for the past 19 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Ruth Quick and Donna Mason, and brothers William (Billy) Wright and Lawrence (Russell) Wright.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 61 years, Delores (Ard) Wright of the home; four children and their spouses Raymond (Leon) Wright and Danette of Basehor, KS, Paula and Mark Peterson of Bonner Springs, KS, Mitchell and Stephanie Wright, and Darren and Angela Wright all of Raymore, MO; as well as eight grandchildren; Kenny (Vanessa) Wright, Greg (Becca) Pope, Tim Wright, Courtney Pope (Jon Byrne), Kacey Peterson, Jacob (Rachel) Peterson, Jordan Wright and Regan Wright; 3 great-grandchildren, Gunner Burns, Maisy Byrne, and Declan Peterson; and one sister Wilma (Jean) Heckman of Shawnee, KS.
Private graveside services will take place on a later date.
