Rebecca Ann Kimbrough-Frantz, 64, passed away July 1, 2017 after a courageous, determined battle with cancer. Generous, kind, thoughtful and brilliant, she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, co-workers and community.
She was the fiscal services manager for Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), a position she had held since 2001. Before that, she worked as the comptroller for the Arizona State Retirement System and as an auditor for the Arizona Auditor General’s Office.
Becky earned her MBA with an emphasis in information technology from Northern Arizona University in 1984, after working as a high school English teacher in both Chinle, Arizona and Mesa for eight years. After she received her MBA, she worked at a Big Six accounting firm and a data services firm.
She earned her certified public accountant designation as well as the designation of certified information systems auditor (CISA), both while working full-time. Working in finance was her passion and she was respected enormously not only within her organization but by the 33 municipal and regional governments that are members of MAG. In March 2005, she was featured in a cover story in Arizona Woman Magazine called “Leadership Insights from Top Phoenix Women.”
Becky was active in her church, Calvary Chapel North Phoenix. She loved Hawaii and her dogs.
Born March 10, 1953 in Ada, Oklahoma to Mildred and Roland Kimbrough, Becky moved with her parents who were educators to Chinle on the Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona in 1959. In 1970, she graduated from Chinle High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Arizona State University in Tempe.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas Frantz of Phoenix, with whom she spent 26 years; mother, Mildred Kimbrough of Mesa; sisters Jan Kimbrough of Albuquerque and Jeania Kimbrough (Nicolas Abramowicz) of Phoenix; brothers Don (Marilynn) of Chinle and Jeffrey of Mesa; and four nieces and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Roland E. Kimbrough, Jr.
