Rebecca Carol Rankin, 32, was born October 5, 1983 in Scottsdale, AZ to John and Janet (Taylor) Rankin. Rebecca grew up in Phoenix and resided briefly in Monroe, Washington. After returning to the valley, Rebecca relocated to Glendale where she excelled as a direct marketer and fundraiser. Family and friends meant everything to her, and she was a devoted daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, sister, and aunt. Rebecca adored her “children,” her two dogs Sancho and Miss Pie.
Rebecca was known for her powerful voice and strong opinions. She enjoyed debates, but her sense of fairness and generosity were always felt by friends and family. She was an animal lover, providing a home to several strays. Rebecca’s passions also included cooking, music, gangster movies, Hawaii, and staying connected with distant family and friends on social media.
Rebecca’s untimely death came as she was struck by a vehicle while walking near her home. She is survived by parents John and Janet, sister Jennifer (Rankin) Clifton of Indianapolis, IN, grandmother Ina (Samms) Taylor of Phoenix, grandparents Harold (Sonny) and Carolyn (Schwartz) Rankin of Springfield, OH, and her two dogs Sancho and Miss Pie. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Robert Raynes Taylor.
Services will be held Sunday, January 31st at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Road, Phoenix, AZ. An informal gathering will be held at noon, followed by a service officiated by John May beginning at 1PM. A reception will follow the service from 2-3PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arizona Humane Society or Young Life in Rebecca’s name.
