Born on October 25, 1939 he was 83 years old. He passed quietly in his room at Avista Senior Living where he had resided for the last 4 years. Although he suffered from a stroke, he never lost his lust for life. He was considered by those who knew him to be a fun, happy, joyful person (and a notorious flirt!).
He always had a zeal for life and an awareness of how little time we actually spend here on earth. It gave him his positive enthusiasm to maximize life to its fullest extent and enjoy every moment.
He traveled the world to ski its snow and scuba its oceans and experience its culture (and party a little too). He also truly loved Arizona and the SouthWest United States and took advantage of enjoying everything nature in this area had to offer. Being an engineer and contractor by trade, he was a lover of anything mechanical. If it flew, floated or had wheels, he liked to be in, on, or around it. Preferably at full throttle, which is also how he lived his life! He was an avid patriot. He had been in the Army early in life and had a devotion to this country up until his last breath. He always had an American flag with him wherever he was.
His parents, Lee and Ida were residents of Flagstaff. He had a sister, Barbara. He had 2 sons, Todd and Scott. He is survived by Barbara and Scott. His inheritance was left to everyone who knew him: Live life to it fullest potential. Work hard and play hard. Experience as much as possible because we are here for a very short amount of time. And drive fast!
A celebration of life for Richard (Dick) will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85013. This is a casual gathering of family and friends per Fitz's request!
