

Richard Allen “Sarge” Grennell died on January 31, 2014 at age 82 after a brief illness at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona. He was born in Fulton, New York on December 13, 1931 and grew up in Syracuse, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Grennell and Mildred Arnold. Richard served proudly in the United States Army for over twenty years, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and was stationed in Germany for several years too. Once finishing his career in the Army, Richard settled down in Colorado Springs. CO and began a career with Wells Fargo Armored Car Services where he was the manager of the Colorado Springs office until moving to Chandler, Arizona where he was partially retired. Richard moved to Houston, Texas and spent over ten years there before coming back to Arizona for the last three years of his life. Richard had loved horses all his life and shared that love with his daughter while being her coach and one of her top fans while she was growing up as well as up until the day he went to Heaven. He also loved traveling, being active, playing cards and could bowl a mean game, be that at the alleys or later in life with the Wii gaming system. Richard was a very proud veteran and supported many different veteran organizations, he also loved animals and was a strong supporter of both the ASPCA and Pittie Me Rescue in Gilbert, AZ. Richard is survived by his three children, Mike Grennell of New York, Randy Grennell of Colorado and Karyn Hott of Arizona. Richard also had a wonderful daughter-in-law, Penny Grennell and son-in-law, Kameron Hott. He had six grandchildren: Patrick Michael, Jr. ( Melissa) Grennell, Timothy Grennell, Eric Grennell, Thomas Grennell, Maryln Grennell and Kristopher Hott ( Amanda Morton) and four great grandchildren, Christian Grennell, Olivia Grennell, Lillian Grennell and Jaxon Grennell. Richard also had one sister, Linda Gailey of Colorado. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Sarge’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 11:00am at Desert Palm United Church of Christ located at 1230 E. Guadalupe Rd., Tempe, Arizona and he will be laid to rest on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 1:30pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Phoenix located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona.
