

Richard A. Lunsford, 88, was born on March 3, 1927 to Nettie and James (Burl) Lunsford in Carlsbad, New Mexico where he grew up farming with his dad and was captain of his high school football team. He served in the United States Army were he was stationed in Japan. He returned to Carlsbad where he became a powder monkey in the pot ash mines and married Dolores Barbaree on June 9, 1949. He worked in the mines for 10 years and had 3 children, Tina, Kathy and Russell. He then moved to Cortez, Colorado where he became a carpenter and built bridges. In 1959 the Lunsford family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he worked for Hall Craft Homes as a carpenter and their youngest son John Lunsford was born. In 1962, Richard started his own business Lunsford Construction. By 1972, the Lunsford family moved to Cave Creek, AZ, where they have lived for 43 years. Richard Lunsford passed away peacefully in his home in Cave Creek, Arizona on April 25, 2015 . He was predeceased by his loving wife Dolores. He is survived by a brother Leroy Lunsford and a sister Mary Lou Alexander, brother-in-law Jackie Barbaree, his children, Tina Ferguson (Jim), Kathy Lunsford, Russell Lunsford and John Lunsford (Corinna), along with 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:45 P.M. at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix and 12:30 P.M. at the National Mremorial Cemtery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona.
