

Richard, known to most as Dick or Grandpa Buddy, was born June 18th 1944 in Binghamton, NY to Arthur and Helen Monell. After graduating from Chenango High School he attended Broome Tech CC for a year, then followed his family to Phoenix, AZ where his parents and sister, Rita, had moved the year before in 1962. Richard joined the Marines in 1966 and was sent to Vietnam. Upon discharge from the service a few years later he made his life in Phoenix, married the love of his life, Jane Garland. He worked as a Highway Patrol Officer then worked in construction and fished as much as possible.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 year, Jane, and will be dearly missed by those he left behind - two sisters, Gail (Lynn) Oden of Prescott Valley, AZ, Rita (Bill) Byers of Indianapolis, IN, three sons - Mark (Karen) Monell of Glendale, Ryan (Charman) Monell of Wray, CO, and Patrick (Jackie) Monell of Phoenix, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He will be missed by his family, his many friends and his fishing buddies. He will be remembered for his quick humor, helping hands and kind heart.
There will be a memorial service held at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd., in Phoenix, AZ, on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Followed by the inurnment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, at 1PM.
