Robert James Noyes Sr.

Robert was born on May 20, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois where he would also meet his future bride when he was just 16 years old. Robert joined the United States Navy when he was 16 with his best friend. Robert graduated from boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois. A week after graduation, he shipped out to Norfolk, VA. His first tour of duty was in the Atlantic and his first combat was in Sicily, Italy. Robert was a World War II Veteran. Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7, 1941, Robert was in Pearl Harbor in June of 1942. He was discharged under honorable conditions on March 22, 1944. Robert married his bride, Barbara Messick on August 26, 1944. They were married for 68 years before Barbara passed away in 2013. Robert was a retired Police Officer from the Dayton Police Department. He began his career as a Police Officer and retired as a Lieutenant, 25 years later. Robert and Barbara had two children, Barbara Jean, who passed away in 2010 and Robert, Jr. who passed away in 2009. After he retired, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona which would be home for over 50 years. Robert dabbled in coin collecting and jewelry making - they owned Accent on Jewels in Phoenix for over 20 years. Robert loved a good game of poker. He spent many Wednesday evenings with his buddies playing poker. He loved to travel to Las Vegas to watch boxing matches and to play poker. When it wasn't too hot, he enjoyed playing golf. Robert never missed an Arizona Cardinals football game or an Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game. But nothing meant more to Robert than his family. He adored his granddaughter and absolutely loved his five great grandsons with every ounce of his heart. The world will never be the same without him. Robert is preceded in death by his two brothers, Leroy and Jack, his wife Barbara, daughter Barbara Jean and son Robert Jr. Robert is survived by his lovely lady friend, Mae Nielson, only grandchild, Becki Bigler-Smith (Tyler), five great-grandsons, Justin Lee (29), Blake Todd (26), Christopher Michael (25), Grayson Tyler (18), Cody Robert (16).
