Ruth Joann Vance

(Ruth) Joann (Scanlan) Vance, age 80 of Tempe, AZ formerly of Springfield, OH passed away on May 14, 2013 at 4:26pm in Tempe, AZ., after a long battle with diabetes. She was born September 28, 1932 to Carl and Jennie (Kirkpatrick) Scanlan. After driving a school bus for 19 years, she retired from the Scottsdale Public School System in 1994. She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Antonio) De La Garza, Jr. of TX and Linda (Sam) Urschel of AZ; two sons, Gregory (Renee) Vance of AZ and Timothy (Susan) Vance of NC; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marion Phares, Rita Price and Frances Stokes all of OH; three sister-in-laws, Theresa Peterson, Marilyn Kelly, and Ethel Vance all of OH; numerous nieces and nephews; friends and her companion: her dog Willy. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents and brother Paul. Visitation will be held 1:00pm to 3:00pm, Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Carr-Tenney Mortuary, 2621 S. Rural Rd, Tempe, AZ 85282. A Funeral Mass will be held 9:30am, Monday, May 20, 2013 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 2121 S. Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ 85282 followed by Interment at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix, AZ 85008. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E.
