May 30, 1920 – September 24, 2015
Vernon Lamont Humphrey of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the age of 95. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
Born on May 30, 1920 in French Creek, NY, he was the third of seven children born to the late Cecil and Bertha (Pettingale) Humphrey. He served his country in the Army during WWII as a PFC Artillery Mechanic, spent time in the Pacific Theatre and guarded Japanese prisoners in the Philippines. After the war, Vernon spent his career working at Corry Jamestown in Corry, PA, excelling as a quality control inspector, before retiring in 1985. However, retirement didn’t last too long as he then moved to Arizona and began working at ATSCO Remanufacturing until he retired again at the age of 90. Throughout his life he demonstrated how to be patient and hardworking while keeping a sense of humor and enjoying ice cream and a cookie now and then.
Vernon loved hunting, traveling, golfing, bowling and spending time with family. Some of their fondest memories are of him and Marian dancing the polka. His love and dedication to Marian was like no other. His witty personality made those around him laugh and many got to experience the spark and livelihood that never faded. While celebrating his 95th birthday earlier this year, he was cracking jokes and sharing his famous sayings, keeping smiles on the faces of those around him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Marian Irene Humphrey, brothers: Milton, Charles (Bud), Robert (Bob) and sister Charlotte Sproveri; grandson, Lamont Jaquith and great great granddaughter Mirayah Michelle Waller.
