Betty was born on March 29th 1929 in Rockford, Illinois. She attended West High School during which time she worked in war production, producing materials necessary for Victory as 4 brothers fought and one died in WW2, another fought later in Korea.
After the war and graduation, she worked at National Lock and married Curtis Collins on June 26th 1948 in Rockford, Illinois, continuing her employment at National Lock until the birth of her son in 1959. Throughout her life she loved and cared for those that needed her, such as her mother during a long illness in Curt and Betty’s home until Cora’s passing. Later Betty found employment at the Loves Park, Illinois Ben Franklin until retirement.
Betty and Curtis were both long time members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Rockford, Illinois. Once retired, they volunteered at various organizations, including many years of service at the Manville, Illinois Nazarene Camp. Many friends were made and they shared their faith by example of selfless Christian service.
In later days, she moved with her son to Walhalla, SC, living there for six years. There were days of physical weakness and confusion, but moments of great clarity and love as well. Betty passed quietly and peacefully on a bright morning filled with the sounds of spring coming through her bedroom window. Her body will be cremated in South Carolina and her ashes later transported to be interned next to her husband in Willwood Burial Park in Rockford, Illinois at a later date.
