Mr. McCollum was born in Pickens, SC on July 2, 1939 to the late Ralph Gordan and Essie Freeman McCollum. He retired from Duke Power as a welder and was an avid fisherman to anything that would bite. Mr. McCollum enjoyed his motorized toys especially driving his 1939 Chevrolet sedan but most of all he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, Mr. McCollum is survived by two daughters: Sandy Noel (John) and Gail McCollum, both of Pickens; a son: Scott McCollum of Pickens; a sister: Winona Pelfrey of Easley; three grandchildren: Renee Turner (Matt) of Pickens, Phillip Martin of Pickens, and Chelsea Washington (Ben) of Easley; and six precious great-grandchildren: Alexus Martin, Braxton Turner, Peyton Martin, Kennedy Martin, Finley Kate Washington, Cora Jo Washington and Alexis Crayne.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McCollum was preceded in death by four brothers: Ralph "Junior" McCollum, John McCollum, Gerald McCollum, and Doug McCollum.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Reverend Billy Holder officiating. Family will be receiving friends after the service at Pop's Place in the bottoms.
