

Mr. Sims was born in Greenville County, a son of the late John Elmore and Florence Clayton Sims. He worked for American Spinning Co. for 44 years until it closed and then retired from the Pickens Plant of Mayfair Mills. He was a member of East Pickens Baptist Church. A patriot, Mr. Sims served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nina Elizabeth “Lib” Durham Sims, of the home, sons, Steve Beasley (Sheila) of Easley and Donald E. Sims, Jr. (Tracey) of Pickens, daughters, Sandy Beck (Jerry) of Easley and Janice Pappas (Bill) of Charleston. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kim Anthony, Cynthia Pate, Melissa Flynn, Nichole Richey, Jessica Harris, and John Sims and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sims was predeceased by siblings, Ollie Simms, Vera Culpepper, Pauline Brown, Ellen Sellers, and Fred Simms.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, December 19, 2014 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Gardens.
