Katie Chapman

Katie Sue Grant Chapman, 83, of Pickens, wife of the late B.D. Chapman, went home to be with her Lord peacefully, on Monday, March 6, 2017. Born on June 24, 1933, in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late William Clifton and Mary Olive Ward Grant. Mrs. Chapman was a charter member of Cove Creek Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing and praising God in the church choir. She was very involved in her community, from working for the School District of Pickens County to volunteering at Cannon Memorial Hospital for several years. Mrs. Chapman loved cooking and crocheting quilts for her grandchildren and family. Surviving are two daughters, Elaine Holcombe of Pickens and Kathy Layton and husband, Tom of Easley; three sons, Russell Coy Chapman of Pickens, Stanley Chapman and wife, Teresa of Easley and Ted Mansell Chapman of Easley; six grandchildren, Suzanne Rampey and husband Randy, of Old Fort, N.C., Justin Holcombe and wife, Katie of Easley, TJ Layton and wife, Kelly of Easley, Tyler Layton, of Greenville, Brent Chapman and wife, Holly of Easley, and Quenton Chapman of Easley; five great-grandchildren, Elaina Rampey, Hanna Holcombe, Wyatt and Emery Layton, and Harper Chapman; a goddaughter, Bobbie Ferguson of Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Cleon Durham and Ruth Aiken, and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, a son-in-law, Greg Holcombe, a mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roe Chapman; two brothers, Jack and James Grant, and a sister, Willie Mae Garrett; precede her in death. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 12, 2017, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow in the chapel at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens. A special thank you to the staff of Capstone and Palladium Hospice, especially Jason Sloan and the CNA’s, for all of the care and compassion given to Mrs. Chapman and her family during this difficult time.
