Martha A Burgess

Pickens – Martha Ann Maddox Burgess, 79, wife of the late Gary Eugene Burgess went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 12, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Martha was born July 12, 1945 in Augusta, GA, a daughter of the late Lawrence Sanford and Martha Boyett Maddox. She was retired from Ryobi Motor Products, now OWT Industries and was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and her husband Gary, Martha was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Earl Maddox, Mayoma Whitmire, Juanita Bell, Beatrice Stuckey and Marvin Maddox making her the last surviving member of her generation.

Survivors include her children, Joyce Dodgens (Richard), Anita Pinkston (Robert), Scott Burgess (Angie) and Wendy Wilson (Kelly), grandchildren include Jonathan Dodgens (Hope), Rebecca Meyers (Justin), Tara McGowan (Daniel), Kelly Porter, Oceana Burkhalter, Reeci Bryant (Josh), and Caylee Burkhalter. Surviving also are eleven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 1 PM at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Joey Capps and Reverend James Dyar officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Gary, at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Family members will gather at their respective homes.
