Robert was born in Easley on August 9, 1951 to the late Marcus and Fannie Raines. He loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and was always willing to help anyone in need. Robert was a former football coach for the Pickens Recreation Department for over 30 years. He was a former drag racer, earning numerous victories and championships throughout SC and GA and he earned the name "Doc Rob" for his career in racing. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Vietnam. Robert was a longtime member of United Wesleyan Church where he sang and played guitar.
Robert is survived by his three children: Steve Raines (Tara) of Pickens, Barry Raines (Michelle) of Pickens, and Tina Hawkins (John) of Williamston; his nine grandchildren: Robert Raines, Kayla Raines, Amber Raines, Kohl Raines, Daniel Soto, Cheyenne Davis, David Davis, Katelen Hawkins, and Adriann Hawkins; a great-granddaughter: Desmona; and four brothers and sisters: Geraldine, Ruby, Kenny, and Helen.
In addition to his loving wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters: David, Frank, John, and Bertie.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at United Wesleyan Church, 738 Rice Rd, Easley, SC 29640, with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at United Wesleyan Church.
