Born in Greenville, SC in 1954, Steve was the son of late Albert and Sue Honacker Bagwell. He graduated from Easley High School and built a successful career as both a commercial and general contractor.
Steve was known for his love of music, his gift for storytelling, and his deep devotion to Christ. He was a man who never met a stranger and who made those around him feel welcome, loved, and often entertained. He had a special gift for laughter — especially when spending time with his brother Richard and sister Barbara. Those moments were filled with jokes (often repeated), family stories (never short), and the unmistakable warmth of his joyful spirit.
He dearly loved his wife, Gwen, of 24 years of marriage, always calling her his blessing. His children were his pride, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He could often be found at their sports games, dance recitals, or simply outside tossing a football with them. Those were his happiest moments.
A man of many interests, Steve enjoyed playing his guitar, spending time at the shooting range with close friends, and was once the undisputed king of shooting pool and arm wrestling. He was always up for a friendly competition — or a good laugh.
Steve was a faithful member of his church, Easley First Pentecostal Holiness and treasured his church family. His walk with Christ was evident in his words, actions, and willingness to share his faith with others. He truly lived a life of purpose, grounded in love and guided by unwavering belief.
Steve’s legacy is one of faith, family, and joy. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
In addition to his wife Gwen, Steve is survived by four children: Lesley Baker, Andrew Bagwell (Amber), Angela Walts, and Alyssa Bagwell; eleven grandchildren: Lilly, Lilly Jo, Brayden, Lucy, Livia (Peekaboo), Kaitlyn, Leila, Lincoln, Palmer, Lainy, and Langstin; one great-grandchild: Sara; two siblings: Richard Bagwell (Donna) and Barbara Cantrell (Michael); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a brother Tim Bagwell.
