Mr. Wallace Maurice Ward, age 78, of Pickens SC, passed away Friday evening, September 5, 2025, at his residence and in the company of family. He entered this world on May 26, 1947 in Anderson SC and was one of 15 children born to the late Jesse Lewis and Nettie Daisey Ladd Ward.
Wallace was preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Sylvia Coggins Ward, and multiple brothers and sisters.
He is survived by daughter Angela and Scott Merritt of Jacksonville FL, son Melvin and Christina Ward of Greenwood AR, son Danny and Shauna Rhymer of Columbia SC, and daughter Cathy Lostraglio of Pickens SC. He was proud “Papa” to ten grandchildren: Evan Ward, Cameron Page, Emily Learned, Kristina Harbin, Jessica Bridwell, Amber Anthony, Dauyna Rhymer, Danny Rhymer, Alyssa Rhymer, and Avery Rhymer; and multiple great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Laylan Ward of Seneca, SC and Joe Ward of Mountain Rest, SC, and sisters Corrinda Simmons of Seneca, SC and Ann Simpson of Greenville, SC.
Wallace served in the US Army and was veteran of the Vietnam War. He later worked in the construction industry and was renowned for his carpentry skills. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid reader – particularly of the Bible.
Viewing services will be held Friday September 12 at 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Midway Baptist Church, 1200 Midway Road, Pickens, SC.
