Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Ann graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in 1961 and received her nursing degree from the University of Jacksonville. In 1965, Ann married Paul Francis, and they raised four children.
During her five decades as an intensive care and hospice nurse, Ann was known for her dedication and tenderness to patients. She founded the National Nurses for Life, volunteered for forty years with People Concerned for the Unborn Child and in her later years served on the board of the Allegheny Health Department.
Ann was known for her infectious laugh, boundless energy, passion for the issues that mattered to her, and mostly for the "little ways" she practiced helping others in need. Her life centered on Christ, and Ann worked tirelessly to help the poor, finding shelter for the homeless and delivering groceries to low-income families. She had a soft spot for the lonely and elderly, and many found their way to her table during the holidays.
Ann loved the beach, birds, gardening, watching movies, and spending time with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Elwyn and Muriel (Wrenn) Stouffer, siblings, Bill Stouffer, Susan Hill and Judith Stouffer. She is survived by her husband, Paul; her children, Maureen Francis (Jeff Hill), Fr. Sean Francis, Eileen Jimenez (Edward), Michael Francis and John Sobraske (Lisa Maynard); and her grandchildren, Luke, Colman, Maya, Andrew, Gunnar and Lars.
