AVIS DE DÉCÈS
5 novembre 1934 – 3 juin 2021
Audrey M. Alexander Cherkes Cziczin died peacefully surrounded by her children on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at the Reformed Presbyterian Home in Pittsburgh’s North Side.
Audrey was born on November 5, 1934, in Pittsburgh to the late Anna Davis Alexander and John Edgar Alexander, Sr. She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond P. Cziczin, brothers; John E. Alexander, Jr.; Russell Mudry; sister Phyllis Koontz Hambly and stepmother Florence Mudry Alexander.
She is survived by her loving children: Cathyann Cherkes Simmons, Charles (Kelly) Cherkes, and Dawn Rae (Brian Clark) Cziczin. She was the cherished grandmother of 10: Orlena “Lena” Luick, Allison (Anton) Dugas, Lauren (Jarrod McGoun) Simmons, Derek (Bethany) Cherkes, Charli (Chelsea) Fiveash, Ian Cherkes, Mary “Claire” (Nicholas) Mohrbach, Justin Clark, Travis Clark, and Brianna Rae Cziczin and great grandmother of 4: Talan Luick, Mason Luick, Zelda Cherkes, and Grey Cherkes. She is survived by many nieces and nephews from Pittsburgh to Salt Lake City, UT, whom she loved dearly.
Audrey moved frequently as a child but was determined to finish high school and was most proud of graduating from Perry High School as well as being a member of Perry’s women’s Capella Choir. She was a Girl Scout Leader, taught gym at Sacred Heart Elementary in Emsworth for a period of time, and loved attending mass and Bible study groups. But she was most devoted as the treasurer for Slavjane, a Carpatho-Rusyn dance group, for many years, to which she donated many hours. She helped keep Dawn, Lena, and the other children dancing by her hard work; sewing costumes, and fundraising at the yearly festivals by preparing all the festive foods.
Audrey was a hard worker and always found creative ways to entertain herself and share with those around her. Audrey loved adventures and was blessed to have traveled to many places including the Czech Republic, Poland, Ireland, and Scotland as well as many trips to Florida with her husband Ray and Dawn.
Family and friends are welcome to H.P. Brandt Funeral Home for visitation from 2-8 PM on Sunday, June 6, 2021. A Blessing service will take place on Monday, June 7, 2021, at 12:00 PM at the funeral home with burial to follow at Allegheny Memorial Park. We are blessed to have you looking over our family as we grow and live in your memory. We are the garden you tended and we are blessed to have been cared for by your generous soul. You would hold our hand or hug us tightly and with so much love; we knew we belonged. Until next time... I love you, Grammy.
Forever with love,

My love & sympathy to Audrey’s family. It’s been our humble honor to care for Audrey at RPH in her final years. We were happy to have her involved in some of our group activities such as music, spiritual devotions and enjoying time out on the deck. We will miss Audrey and her devoted family.
God bless you and give you peace.
