Edna was born on November 6, 1928, and grew up in the small town of Millvale, which she always considered her home. She attended grade school at St Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church and often spoke of her memories of the Maxo Vanka Murals and Father Zagar. Edna especially loved her Croatian grandmother and her uncle, Albert Wohlgemuth who unfortunately lost his life in WWII. Living through the struggles of the Great Depression, Edna was a dedicated and hard worker determined to provide her two children with the best life possible. She was employed by The Bell Telephone Company as a Directory Assistance Operator for over 40 years until her retirement in 1992. Edna was an animal lover, and considered her three pets, Rusty, Cleo and Kitty Lou, part of her family. She enjoyed old movies, going out for dinner and especially a good cup of coffee.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Betchce, and younger siblings,
Virginia Klimkowski, Richard Betchce and John Betchce. She is survived by her two children, Steve Kurus (Lisa) and Karen Henschel (Robert), grandchildren Heather Galleher (Joe), Ryan Kurus and Brianna Kurus, step-grandchildren Tom Roland and Ashley Kirkwood (Jordan), great granddaughter, Reagan Galleher and step-great granddaughter Camila Kirkwood. The family would also like to acknowledge Kathy Zemaitis for her compassionate care over the last few years along with ViaQuest Hospice.
As per Edna's request services are private, please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
