I'm so distraught to learn of Eric's passing today.  I have been thinking of him strangely this past month - I kept hearing Tears for Fear on the radio.  I  reached out to touch base and found out the bad news.

Thank you Eric for being there for me through the years, you have helped me out a lot.  We tried our best to master pizza dough, definitely mastered fires in the potbelly and enjoying wine in the side yard with Miss Stinkers - I'm so freaked out and sad about this.  Only you and I would turn your new "fish pond" into a pool in the middle of July - that was fun.

May you rest in peace and I hope you are swimming with the fishes - those were good times :)  Thank you again for being there.  Carrie.

I've known Eric for over 20 years. I first complimented him on the shift knob in his Nissan. A custom made wooden grip shifter. It was made for driving. We would take some time every time he came to the shop to catch up with each other's lives.  While I was settling down, he was seeing the world.  Soon, the Nissan was gone, but that shift knob transferred perfectly to his new Tacoma. He and Stella loved that truck, and hearing about his drive to Alaska sounded like a heartwarming novel. A man and his dog seeing what this country had to offer.  Months turned into years, and Eric was devastated when Stella traveled across that rainbow bridge. We would talk about someday getting another, but his heart wasn't up for it.  The frame on his truck was recalled, and he moved on to a new Subaru. God he hated that car. He wished he'd just kept the Tacoma. Shift knob and all made the move though.  We would text well wishes on birthdays and holidays, and he would drop by the shop just to say hi.  It's been a few months since I'd heard from Eric. Maybe I should text him and see how he's doing? See how his house is coming along?  Maybe he's working out of town again and I missed it?  I'll check Facebook first, since sometimes I'll miss something.  That moment hit me like a 2x4 to the head. "Remembering Eric Binder"!?!?  Posts all gone! Wait, what?????  I type his name into google, and there it is. The obituary from exactly one week ago. 50 years old, and gone too soon.
If someone is on your mind, reach out. A text. A phone call.  You just never know when you won't have that opportunity again. Keep on shifting Eric. I hope you and Stella keep on traveling the world together.

We are shocked and saddened to hear of Eric's passing.   All our love and sympathies go out to his family and friends.   While we didn't get together as much as we should have in the past years, when we did it was like a day hadn't gone by, and we laughed and had a good time just as we did back in our 20's!   We will always miss you Eric.

While my three children were growing up in Observatory Hill, Eric became the fourth!
So many memories that will always remain in our hearts!  My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and family.

My favorite tag line for Eric was "he can build anything." Because he could. Any gizmo, gadget, do-dad needed on a shoot and he could make it. He could shoot, run audio, light, grip and push Joe around on a dolly to create amazing images. I remember when the three of us did the consecutive shoots in France, Brussels and England. We had so much jet lag, numerous hotel and currency changes that by the time we got to London, Eric thought the guy with the Cockney accent was speaking a foreign language. That image still makes me laugh. 

His death is heartbreaking.

He knew lighting, audio, grip and camera. Basically every crew position. I traveled all over the states with him and managed to have him on my crew for a consecutive shoot in France, Brussels and London. We had such bad jet lag and been through so many languages, hotels and currencies that by the time we got to London he was trying to figure out if the guy with a cockney accent was actually speaking English. That still makes me laugh. His talent will be missed.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Eric's passing. My most heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed and he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Eric.

There were many times when Eric was more like family than just a friend. My heart goes out to the Binder family. Sending love.

Eric was an essential part of D'Elia Wittkofski and Mind Over Media for years. He was kind, funny, dedicated and had an amazing work ethic. He and Joe worked so well together, it was like they were one person when they were shooting. They had a great working relationship together. I had the great fortune to travel to some wonderful places with them--San Francisco, Iowa City, London, Amsterdam, and Geneva, to name a few. So many good memories. We are heartbroken over his passing. He was a truly good person.

Eric was the ultimate video professional. I worked with him as a fellow freelancer for almost 20 years. My role on these shoots was primarily that of a producer. If you are familiar with  the world of production you know that we producers are useless without the real talented professionals that truly carry the day.  That true professional was Eric.  He, more than competently but exemplarily,  filled the role of videographer, gaffer, audio technician, dolly grip and grip on a hundred or so shoots that we were a part of together. The highest professional complement that I can give him is that when he was on a shoot with me, in any capacity, I was never concerned about anything because Eric was there and he always had your back. He will be missed in this city for all of the care he put into his profession. I hope that he is somewhere right now hanging out with Stella.

I worked with Eric occasionally, and even traveled with him on film shoots. I was always grateful to work with him. He was so helpful, kind, and resourceful. I am terribly sorry to hear of his passing.

My Baby Brother... so many things make me think of you, so many times every day.  I trust you are in a better place. My heart is breaking.
