Gary Michael Caplan, 54, passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2023 in Avalon, PA. He was born on March 3, 1969 in Pittsburgh to Kenneth Caplan and Mary Caplan Zeis. He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Caplan; his father-in-law, Joseph Golixer and his mother-in-law, Carol Golixer.
Gary will be remembered as a loving, kind man who left this earth too soon. He was a skilled bowler for more than 30 years, and was a proud member of the Northside Ministries Bowling League. For the past 15 years, he was employed by Allegheny General Hospital. Gary was happiest with a glass of Marburger iced tea in his hand while he watched his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Penguins (and sometimes the Steelers, on a good day). He married the love of his life, Collette, on August 10, 2019 at a gorgeous beach-themed wedding. From a young age Gary loved taking trips to the beach with his family, especially when a lighthouse could be found nearby; we like to think that a beautiful lighthouse guided Gary safely home.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Collette Golixer; mother, Mary Caplan Zeis (John) and step-mother, Judy Caplan; siblings, Michelle Calvo (Miguel), Alicia Zeis, Todd Caplan, and Leslie Christensen; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Monday, September 4, 2023 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, with a funeral service taking place at 7pm.
