November 26th, 1930 – October 20th, 2018
Gerald Joseph Attardi (The Ace) of Miami, Florida passed away at age 88 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Beloved father of Debbie Maggio; adored grandfather to Danielle and Gabrielle Maggio; brother to Joann Cinque and Geraldine Postiglione; and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Gerald is preceded in death by his cherished wife of fifty-three years, Doris Castellucci Attardi; his two beautiful sons Robert and Gerald “Jay” Jr. Attardi; his son-in-law Gregory Maggio; his sister Linda Schiavone; his mother Molly Attardi Cubello; and his father Joseph Attardi.
Born and raised in Harlem, New York to two Sicilian Americans, Gerald enlisted in the Marines to help support his family. Gerald quickly became a decorated Lieutenant and served in the Korean War from 1950-1952. After the war, he was stationed in Hialea, Florida and served as Military Police. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and proudly raised his family in Miami, Florida.
In Miami, Gerald became a successful general contractor. As owner of Attardi Construction, he helped to build many of the hotels and restaurants in South Beach starting in the late 1950s up until he retired in the early 2000s. On top of owning his own construction business, Gerald also became a successful boxing manager for Don King Productions, working alongside his dear friend and boxing trainer, Al Bonnani. Gerald managed ten champion fighters in his lifetime.
The last few years of his life were spent in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania courageously battling Alzheimer’s with the care of his amazing daughter Debbie. Even towards the end of this devastating disease, Gerald never lost his suave personality, his ability to laugh, or his gorgeous thick wavy hair.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you donate to the Alzheimer's Association in the memory of Gerald “The Ace” Attardi.
