On Sunday, February 18th, 2024, at about 2 PM, Jack Michael Hubert of McCandless passed away from complications from hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare immune disorder. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at West Penn Hospital at the age of 68.
Jack was born November 6th, 1955 in Pittsburgh. He was raised in a loving home in McCandless by his mother and father, Marian and George Hubert, with his two older brothers, George and Daniel. He was an enthusiastic athlete growing up, playing several sports, but especially passionate for wrestling most of all. He graduated high school in 1974 from North Allegheny School District, after which he attended Slippery Rock University. As he settled into adulthood and family life, he would spend most of his working years at the Town of McCandless in the Department of Public Works.
He met his beloved wife, Donna Lynn (neé Hartrick), through his sister-in-law, Susan. The two fell in love and were married in 1985 at the West View United Methodist Church. He and Donna shared thirty-nine years of blissful marriage, bringing two sons, Douglas Michael and Timothy George, into the world in 1987 and 1989. The family attended St. John’s Lutheran Church of Highland in McCandless. As a family, Jack loved to share his love for sports and nature with his sons and wife. He enjoyed travel, learning about wildlife, reading about history, old movies, going for walks, bowling, a cold beer, and taking care of his garden.
Jack had recently retired and taken the opportunity to explore the far corners of not only the United States, but the rest of the world with Donna. He enjoyed and cherished life with unparalleled enthusiasm until the very end, taking special pleasure in the company he kept, and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Donna, his sons Douglas and Timothy (Camille), his brothers George (Jean) and Daniel (Susan), and the family cat, Prettycat (whom he lovingly called “Dopey”), and will join in heavenly company his mother and father, Marian and George, and many other loved ones who preceded him in death. His was a full life, yet still one lost too soon.
Jack’s family will gather for a viewing at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home (1032 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh, PA 15237) on Wednesday, February 21st, from 2 PM until 4 PM, then 6 PM until 8 PM. A service will be held at 7 PM on the location during that time. Flowers to honor him are deeply appreciated, as are donations in his memory to the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh or to the Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka.
