Marguerite W. Rice, born October 1, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2025, at the age of 91. A resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her life was marked by her compassionate and beloved nature. Marge was cherished by her family and friends for her honest, devoted, and faithful spirit. Her inspirational acts of kindness, thoughtful gestures, and patient demeanor left an indelible impact on all who knew her.
Born under the shadow of the Incline in Pittsburgh, Marge was the youngest daughter of Hilary and Marguerite Wertz. She graduated from St. Bernard's in Mt. Lebanon and from St. Mary of the Mount High School. She often recalled the day of Pearl Harbor when she was a child and began her working life as a pin setter at her father's bowling alley.
After high school, Marge pursued a secretarial career until she became pregnant with her first child. She devoted many years to being a stay-at-home mom for her five girls. Once her daughters were grown, she returned to her role as a secretary at Bruce D. Rice and Associates.
Married to the late Bruce D. Rice for 61 wonderful years, Marge was a loving mother to Patti Gauntner (Wallace), Carol Herrera (Tim), Maureen Ulrich (Dennis), Lynn Bell (Jim Kinter), and her honorary daughter, Kathy McGlone. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Ann E. Rice.
A devoted Catholic, Marge was an active member of Our Lady of Joy Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and took Communion to shut-in members. Her involvement in the lady's guild and her love for knitting and crocheting, particularly Chemo caps and lap blankets, demonstrated her abundant kindness. She adored vacationing with her family in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, cherishing beach life and dining at Zaberer's, where she enjoyed her first Pecan Ball. Marge was a very social person and had many friends in the stages of her life. In her final years she had many close friends and beloved caregivers at Ridgecrest Senior Living.
Marge's inspirational life is celebrated and remembered by all whose lives she touched.
