Matthew Alan Kenney

With heavy hearts and the deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of Matthew Alan Kenney, whom the Lord called to higher service on 15 September 2024 after 41 years on this Earth. Matt was a cherished son, brother, and friend whose kindness, love, and light touched the lives of everyone around him.

Born in Riverside, CA on 18 July 1983, Matt possessed a gentle nature and spirituality that reflected God’s grace and love in all that he did throughout his life. His energetic positivity, beaming smile, and caring heart will be missed more than words can express.

Matthew was an athlete and avid sports fan who graduated from Hempfield High School (class of 2002) in Greensburg, PA and Washington & Jefferson College (class of 2006) in Washington, PA. He demonstrated toughness on the ice where he excelled at playing ice hockey throughout his collegiate years while he pursued his passion for the performing arts.

Though his loss shattered our hearts, we remain grateful for the precious memories he created and the many lives he impacted. As we grieve, we give thanks for his life and the joy he brought to others despite his abbreviated time among us. We cling to the promises of Scripture, knowing that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalms 34:18). Ultimately, we find comfort knowing that Matthew rests in the arms of his Savior and we will forever carry him in our hearts because we trust in God’s promise of eternal life.

Rest in peace until we meet again, dear Matthew. Your legacy of kindness and compassion will continue in all of us. You are deeply loved and will never be forgotten.

Matthew is survived by his loving mother Jolie, father David, brothers Christopher, Jonathan, and Jack, and many extended family members and dear friends.

A visitation for Matthew will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12 PM at H. P. Brandt Funeral Home located at 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
