

Michael Kelty Kovacs, 75, died peacefully on July 11, 2025. Michael was born August 14, 1949, to Michael and Lillian Kovacs of Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from North Hills High School in 1967 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Villanova University in 1971. Michael was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity while attending Villanova. He received his Master's in Business Administration from Ryder College in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Clare, as well as Clare's siblings Jane Schott, Faye Schott, and Charles Schott, and also several cousins in the Pittsburgh area. He was preceded in death by his parents (Michael and Lillian Kovacs) and his half-brother Thomas Durnell and his wife Toni Durnell.
Michael started his career in Pittsburgh at Vulcan Materials as a Technician/Foreman Trainee (1972-1973), then worked for Amchem Products as a Chemist in the Steel Group Automotive Section (1973-1979). He moved to Columbus, OH to work for Ashland Chemical Company as Supervisor, New Product Development-Specialty Chemicals Division (1979-1982). He then worked for Oakite Products in Berkeley Heights, NJ as Research Projects Manager, and as Business Manager, Chemical Coatings (1982-1989). He then worked for PQ Corporation, Valley Forge, PA as Market Development Manager, Product Manager-Metasilicates, Epsom Salt (1989-1998). He then worked for General Electric Water and Process Technologies (later taken over by Hercules) as Senior Technical Marketing Project Engineer-Membrane Chemicals/Equipment (1999-Retirement).
Michael was a member of the 69th Pennsylvania Civil War Reenactment Group and participated in many reenactments, memorial graveside services for Civil War Veteran headstone dedications, marched in the Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade and previously in the Doylestown Memorial Day Parade. He enjoyed hiking and biking with his wife Clare and friends in the Bucks County area.
Michael will be interred at the Rose Point Presbyterian Cemetery just north of Pittsburgh. Private funeral/burial arrangements are being handled by Brandt Funeral Home in Pittsburgh, PA. Per Michael's request, there will be no viewing or memorial service.
