Nancysue (Weaver) Givens was the only child of William Woodrow (Woody) and Betty Jane (Inks) Weaver. Born on New Year’s Day, 1947, much of her early life was spent not just with her parents, but also with many grandparents and great-grandparents. Irene Inks (McKean) Markle, Hazel Catherine (Cooney) Weaver and Nicholas Weaver, as well as Minnie Swain and Oliver Inks.
She was a proud alumnus of North Allegheny School District, and she was an all around Pittsburgh sports fan. H2P and Here We Go!
She has one surviving daughter, Sharon (Stalker Givens) Volpe, from her first marriage to Fred Stalker. Sharon and Ron Volpe have two children, Quinn and Mackenzie.
Nancy married William H. Givens (1938-2019) and had one child, Staceyanne (1973-2015). Nancy and Bill spent most of their lives in Mercer, PA, before moving to Conway, SC in 2017.
Nancy worked as a respiratory therapist for Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, PA, then Passavant Hospital in McCandless, PA. After an unfortunate accident while picking apples with Amish women, she trained to become a pet groomer and worked at this until her retirement.
Nancy enjoyed cooking for everyone she knew, and no one made deviled eggs better than she did. She loved eating at restaurants and then reminding everyone that she could make the same dishes better. And if you were the chef - she’d let you know exactly which ingredients you needed to change.
She loved talking about the times that she judged speech and debate tournaments. She loved the sun and vacations. She loved when friends and family came to visit her and stay with her, and she loved that Mackenzie’s and Quinn’s friends took to calling her “MeeMaw” on their visits. She loved taking care of feral cats and befriending all dogs. She loved playing Mahjong with Lois and her neighborhood friends. She loved talking on the phone to anyone and everyone - but especially to her friend Midge and her hospital friends from “back home.”
Nancy was in the Peter Horry DAR in Conway as well as the Madeleine Gilbert DUVCW in Mercer County. She was a Red Hat Lady in Mercer and talked about their events often.
In addition to Sharon’s family, she is survived by her good dog, Miss Bailey the Peekapoo (who was named after one of her favorite alcoholic beverages because "Miss Red Wine" didn't have the same ring to it) as well as Bailey’s best dog friend, Scarlett. Staceyanne’s widower, Matt Cawley and his wonderful second wife Nikki and their many beautiful kids, as well as Staceyanne’s close friend John Kimicata and his wife Kara. Also surviving are her step-daughters Diane Fereshetian and Laurie Queen and all of their children and grandchildren.
Thanks to Nancy’s friends, Marianne, Elaine, and Diane, who took such good care of Nancy in the months before she moved into Portside at Grand Dunes at the end of April. Nancy started with Sunrise Hospice just days ago, and thank you so much to those same friends who sat with Nancy as she transitioned.
