Beloved husband of Rhonda (Kiss) for 43 years. Loving father of Jason Mares and Andrew (Caryne) Mares. Pap-pap to Mason, Ada, and June. Born and raised on lower Troy Hill, Northside. Rick quit school at 17 and joined the U.S. Marines. He volunteered for Vietnam, where he served for 2 years, attaining the rank of Corporal. After an honorable discharged he met the love of his life, Roni. They were married on April Fools Day 1978.
Rick was a night bartender on Troy Hill for 10 years before working for the US Postal Service where he retired after 39 years. Rick was a quiet guy but also loved a spirited debate, sometimes playing devil’s advocate just for the heck of it, considered a Mares trait. He liked to read, play chess, jazz, or just hanging out in the back porch with a beverage. Rick loved his family more than anything.
