

Surrounded by his family, Robert Walter Cawthon peacefully departed this earth on Thursday, November 10, 2016. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Arlene Gaskins Cawthon and his parents, Robert Cawthon and Mary Lucy Gordy Cawthon; He was the loving father of Linda Cawthon Griffin (Fred), Robert W. Cawthon, III (Martha), Julie A. Sumpter (Robert), Michael E. Cawthon (Jennifer), David P. Cawthon and Tracee L. Ford; brother of Julius Cawthon and the late Ben, Joseph, Magdalene, Evelyn Bernice, Mary Louvenia, Betty Jean, Barney and Frank; also survived by 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Mr. Cawthon was retired from LTV (formerly J&L) Steel after almost 30 years as a steelworker. He then embarked on a second career as a security officer for Carnegie Mellon University for 29 years, where he was affectionately known as “Officer Bob”. In addition, he was an experienced house painter and plumber. Bob was passionate about his faith. He attended his church for 60 years serving over those years as a Sunday School teacher, Bus Driver, Youth Group Leader and Elder. In his leisure time he had a passion for gardening and took pleasure in giving away the vegetables he grew to family and friends. Friends are received Wed., Nov 16th & Thurs., Nov 17th from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Inc., 1014 California Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15202. Additional visitation on Fri., Nov 18th from 9 AM until time of services at 11 AM at the Greater Pittsburgh Revival Center, 4555 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
