Ernest Eugene Baxter

July 31, 1936 - January 16, 2014

Ernest “Gene” E. Baxter passed away at home on January 16, 2014. Devoted husband of 30 years to Francine Baxter; loving father of Shelly (Peter) Alexander, Deena (Bruce) Schwegler and Rob (Patti) Baxter and step-father of Shalene (Don) Massey and Robert (Renee) Glidewell; brother of Jacky (Bill) Bindel and Gary (Rhonda) Baxter; beloved grandfather of Shawna, Austin, Evan, Rachael, Danelle, Grant, Carina, Alaina, Alex and Nathaniel and great grandfather of Kaelyn.

Gene was born on the family farm north of Ayrshire, Iowa on July 31, 1936 to Ernest “Doc” and Elnora Baxter. After high school he served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1959 as an Aviation Electronics, Second Class on the USS Hancock and USS Hornet aircraft carriers touring Japan and Korea. In 1960 he joined Hewlett Packard, retiring after 28 years as the San Francisco Field Service District Computer Service Manager in Palo Alto. After retirement he worked at See’s Candies in Mountain View which fulfilled his love of milk chocolate. Moving to Cameron Park in 1998, Gene was a member of the Placerville Elks Lodge #1712 of Shingle Springs and the Church of the Foothills of Cameron Park. He enjoyed camping in his 5th wheel, fishing and metal detecting with the Gold Country Metal Detectors club. Gene was always supportive of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He had many friends at the Senior Lunch program.

Memorial Services, including Navy Honors, will be held on February 8, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Church of the Foothills, 2380 Merrychase Dr, Cameron Park, CA. Private inurnment has been held.
