

Jim Hutchinson passed away peacefully surrounded by his extended family and friends on August 17. A 25 year resident of Mt. Aukum, Jim was born and grew up in Sacramento. Jim attended Sacramento High and graduated from Sacramento City College where he later taught math. Apprenticed at Sacramento Machine Company and retired from a 38 year career at Aerojet Techsystems Co.
Jim was a Veteran of the Korean War (member of VFW Post 10165); a longtime Somerset Pioneer Lions Club member, he served as Secretary, President, Zone and Region Chair. In 2006, Jim was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow (the highest honor a club can give a member). He was a founding director of the El Dorado Center for the Visually Impaired.
Jim is survived by his wife Penny, son Shawn (Shelly); daughters Cindi Key, Kim Dahl, Jayme Bertera, and Dru Gonia:, stepson Darrell Krum (Lorra) and stepdaughter Gail Dobber (David), 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and his sister Elmarie of Occidental and his brother Albert of Sacramento
He was preceded in death by his first wife Arline, brother Elmer and granddaughter Kara.
A funeral and celebration of his life is planned for Friday, August 22 at 10 a.m. (visitation Thursday 8/21, 5 to 7pm) at the Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home, 2855 Cold Springs Road, Placerville, CA. VFW post 10165 will provide Military Honors. Interment will be at the Odd Fellows Lawn Cemetery on Riverside Blvd in Sacramento. In lieu of flowers and in honor of his memory, donations may be made to Lions Educational Foundation P.O. Box 13523, Sacramento, CA 95853 or Hospice of Amador and Calaveras.
