

Jill Merrill Cavanaugh, age 84, of Granite Bay, passed away on June 19, 2021, after a long illness. Jill was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Emerson Cavanaugh; her parents, Ariel Cardon Merrill and Edith Horsley; and her sister, Joan Hansen. She is survived by her children, Toni (Jim), Kurt (Dolly), and Scott (Retta); her grandchildren, Mercedes, Austin, and Kiara (Jordan); her great-granddaughter, Kailani; her brother, Roger; and sister, Julie. Jill was also blessed to have a large extended family of 52 nieces and nephews (and greats).
Jill was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was a graduate of Thomas Downey High School in Modesto. She attended San Francisco State where she studied international finance. Jill married Melvin Cavanaugh in 1954, and they were married for 60 years until his passing in 2014. Jill spent much of her working life as a realtor in the Granite Bay area where she won numerous top producer awards. She also served as Relief Society President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When not working or caring for her family, Jill enjoyed reading and decorating.
