Loving father of Eileen (Christopher), Danny (Jane), Peggy (Tony), Patrick (Danielle), Mary (Ken) and Maureen Donovan. Danny has 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Danny was an “old school -family first ”man. Danny was also well-known in the community as a proud American and dedicated, life-long civil servant. He began his years of government service when enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1954. Following his honorable discharge, he proudly served in the Oyster Bay Town government for fifty-three years.
Danny had a passion for politics, he was one of the founding fathers of the NYS Conservative Party and served for 5 years as Chairman of the Nassau County Conservative Party. Prior to becoming the Chairman, Dan served as the Vice Chairman and the Executive Vice Chairman, President of the Mid-Island Conservative Club, and Executive Member of the New York State Conservative Party. Danny loved his community and was always working to stay actively involved. He was a long-standing member of the A.O.H., Knights Of Columbus, American-Irish Congress, Mid-Island Irish American Club, Irish National Caucus, Irish Americans in Government, and Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.
Danny’s reputation of being a fighter began many years ago when he entered the boxing ring. After a successful boxing career, he went on to coach Golden Gloves Boxing in Brentwood and Oyster Bay. His determination didn’t stop outside of the ring. He was very proud of his 53 years of sobriety, he was a licensed Private Investigator, and was also an avid hunter. Danny also fought hard during his final years in a private battle with dementia and with various cancers. A private viewing and ceremony will be held for the family. The family will also hold a public memorial for Danny in the spring that will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Danny’s name can be made to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, 18900 Jefferson Highway, Triangle, VA 22172 or www.marineheritage.org
Looking back at Danny’s legacy it is apparent that, just like he always stated, he was in fact not an Ordinary Man.
