
A.J. Mayes, 85, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Plano Medical Center with family and friends by his side due to complications from pneumonia. A lifelong resident of Plano, A.J. was born on March 21, 1926 to the late G.B. and Georgia Mayes. As a young man A.J. was briefly in the U.S. Navy until he was honorably discharged due to medical reasons. He worked for Borden’s Dairy for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Childress Mayes, his daughter, Rebecca, daughters-in-law Lisa Mayes Jacobs and Valerie Traylor Mayes, his brothers Edison, Fred and Jimmy, and sisters Nannie Sue, Bessie Mae and Helen Ruth.
Surviving are his children; Linda, husband Jerry Kocher, Brenda, husband Jerry McBride, Guion, wife Susan, and Gary; his eight grandchildren Greg McBride, Jeff Kocher, Jason McBride, Julie Rodstrom, Matthew Mayes, Margaret Lindquist, Nicholas Mayes Brannon Mayes and MacKenzie Jacobs; 15 great grandchildren Kyler, Kelsey, Heather, Jake, Morgan, Molly, Haley, Nic, Gunner, Bryce, Christian, Ashton, Jillian, Cody and Madison.
A special thanks to the employees and patrons of Poor Richard’s Cafe and Chubby’s Family Restaurant for the meals and friendships you have provided throughout the years. His days were that much brighter because of you.
