Mrs. Betty Bonfoey passed away on October 29, 2013 in her home in Garland Texas. Born Betty Akin in 1929 in San Angelo, Texas to “Tip” and Eula Akin, Betty moved with her family to Michigan where they worked in an aircraft factory. Following the war, the family moved to Los Angeles, California, where Betty graduated from George Washington High School in 1946.
Betty lived in California for the next seven years until she met and married Lieutenant Robert V. Bonfoey, USAF, in 1953. Betty accompanied her husband to many bases and homes during his Air Force career, and she thrived as a homemaker and mother to David Wayne Bonfoey, born in 1955, and James Alan Bonfoey, born in 1968. Her husband retired from the Air Force and became a restaurant executive, but poor health forced him to retire in 1976.
Because of Robert’s health issues, the family moved to the DFW area, where Betty worked for several companies until she retired in 1993. Following her retirement, Robert and Betty remained in Garland Texas, where Betty was an avid bridge player and a member of Freeman Heights Baptist Church. The couple also enjoyed travelling as often as possible. Robert passed away in December, 2003.
Betty remained in Garland until she went home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with her husband on October 29, 2013.
She is survived by her two sons, David Wayne Bonfoey of Garland, TX, and James Alan Bonfoey of Garland, TX.
Those who wish to celebrate her life are invited to join together at Freeman Heights Baptist Church on Thursday, October 31, at 1:00 p.m.
Freeman Heights Baptist Church is located at 1120 North Garland Avenue, Garland, TX 75040.
Ted Dickey Funeral Home in Plano has charge of arrangements.
