David D. Lobaugh Jr., a World War II Army veteran, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ, on June 20, 2021, in Plano, Texas. He was 95 years old, just a week shy of his 96th birthday. He was born in Pauls Valley, OK in 1925, to David Dee Lobaugh Sr. and Helen Frances (Pratt) Lobaugh. The family later moved to Nebraska and subsequently, to Toledo, Ohio, where Dave became captain of the DeVilbiss HS golf team, leading them to the state championship tournament in Columbus.
He remained an avid golfer throughout his life, collecting many trophies through the years, breaking 70 on occasion and scoring two holes-in-one when he was in his late seventies.
Dave was a devoted husband to his wife, Gloria, who resides in Plano. In January 2019, they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary with more than twenty family members and friends from around the country – gathered in Plano to honor the couple. During his final two years, he loved to reminisce about the celebration and about how much his family meant to him.
In 1980, Following a 31-year career with Shell Oil Company, he and his wife retired to Milledgeville, GA (“Heaven on Earth,” in his words), where they had first met in 1944 when he was stationed at Camp Wheeler, located in nearby Macon. They were married in Oklahoma City on January 18, 1945. He graduated from Oklahoma City University in May 1949 with a BA in Business Administration and went to work for Shell in 1950 as a roustabout in Elk City, OK.
During Dave’s career with Shell, his assignments took him from the oil fields of Elk City to Tulsa, to New York, to a three-year stint on the company’s corporate audit staff, back to New York, and ultimately to Houston, where he capped his time with the company by developing and heading-up its Spirit executive coaching & training program.
He loved to travel – visiting all 48 states in the continental U.S., plus Hawaii. Internationally, his and his wife’s travels included Canada, Mexico, The Caribbean, South America, The UK, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt and the Holy Lands. He wrote a special memoir to his family entitled, “Been There, Done That,” to commemorate their excursions around the world.
In that memoir, he wrote, “God has blessed me and my family more than we could possibly deserve. I will give Him thanks for those blessings…”
In addition to his wife, Gloria, he is survived by his three children – David D. Lobaugh III, who lives in Georgia; William R. (Bob) Lobaugh, a resident of Rosharon, TX; and Laurie A. Mahoney, who resides in Dallas, TX. He had five grandchildren, plus 20 great grandchildren… and counting.
