Drewey "Al" Allen Mays

Drewey Allen Mays, 62 of Allen, TX, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011, after a long battle with kidney disease. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy with two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He was a concrete foreman by trade, which he mastered from his father in NC. Al was born on November 23, 1948, in Amherst, VA. He loved fishing, hunting, cars, sports and working with his hands. He worked very hard to always be there for each and every member of the family. His unbreakable strength and determination made him the anchor of our family. He fought a long hard battle with a great will to live. His two granddaughters brought him the most enjoyment in life. Being able to watch them play and grow up gave him his strength. He was preceded in death by his father, Drewey Tucker Mays; mother, Cora Frances Mays; and birth mother, Margie Caroline Mays. He is survived by his loving son, Allen Berger Mays and wife Vanida; two granddaughters, Samantha Alizabeth and Layla Alexandra; loving friend, Betty Berger; two step-sons, Mike Berger and Bill Stone; brother, Roger T. Mays, wife Kim and niece Ashley of TX; sister, Diane Mays and nephew, Wesley of NC. Al will forever be in our hearts. May he be at peace with the Lord at rest. We will miss you. Visitation will be held at Ted Dickey Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, from 10:00-11:00 am., with Funeral Service at 11:00 am in the Chapel. Interment will follow at 1:15 pm at the Dallas/Ft.Worth National Cemetery.
