Gary Allen Stewart

He was born to Clarence and Mavis Stewart on August 9th, 1944, in Jacksonville, Texas. In 1966, Gary graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and received a bachelor’s degree in Math and Physics. Gary graduated from the Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in 1969. Gary graduated from Christian Life School of Theology with a Doctor of Ministry in 1995.

Gary met his wife, Wanda, in high school Spanish class and they were high school sweethearts. He married the love of his life on August 30th, 1963, and she survives him. Gary is also survived by daughter and son-in-law David and Karen Phillips of Plano, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Philip and Shannon Stewart of Austin, Texas, and son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Kristie Stewart of Murphy, Texas, as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Gary was a wonderful father and known affectionately as Pappa to the grandchildren. Gary loved the outdoors and raised his children and grandchildren to love hunting, fishing and camping. There were so many wonderful family memories that include camping trips, lots of laughter, great story telling and deep talks he imparted with fatherly wisdom, encouragement and love. Later in life, Gary took up golfing and played many games with his wonderful friends.

Gary and Wanda surrendered their lives to ministry and service to the Lord in 1965 and have continued in faithful service for 59 years. Gary’s life goal was to encourage and uplift people and see them fulfill their destiny and purpose. Gary pastored, discipled, coached, and traveled many places to minister the gospel. He was instrumental in releasing the Father heart of God’s love. Gary’s life has touched and impacted so many lives, we know he heard the words well done, good and faithful servant.

Please join us as we celebrate an amazing man who gave his entire life in service to the Lord and others. Services will be held at Ted Dickey Funeral Home 2128 18th St, Plano, Texas 75074. Visitation will be Friday, January 26th from 6pm-8pm. Celebration of life service will be Saturday, January 27th at 1pm with the graveside immediately following.
