James R. (Buddy) Deuel, 88, formerly from Cooper county Missouri, passed away at his home in the Parkview Memory Care (The Gardens) in Frisco, TX . After suffering from Alzheimer's for several years he contracted COVID-19, received comforting Hospice care for several days, and passed away peacefully on February 2,2021,.
James was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins. He was the youngest child born to Elma Oakman Deuel of Prairie Home, MO. lt "took a village to raise this child" because a single mother in a very small town with five children to raise needed help. One of the town's businessmen took him to St. Louis to his first Cardinal baseballgame and he became an avid fan.
Because of the help and influence of his sister, Carol, James attended Southwest Baptist College where he met and married Janet Rae Cunningham. He went on to attend William Jewell College and later
earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from New Orleans Baptist Seminary. He served as pastor of churches in Indianapolis, Indiana, Middletown, Rhode lsland, and forsixteen years at Holmeswood Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. His life was devoted to helping others and his most fulfilling ministry was working with the youth-going with them each summer on mission trips. His legacy of sharing God's love with everyone continues through the lives of all the youth he touched.
After early retirement, his second career was owning and managing an independent mail and packaging store in Bull Head City, AZ, where he quickly made many newfriends. Retirement included visiting children and grandchildren, playing tennis, volunteering, and cheering for his favorite sports teams.
James' out-going, caring personality and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
He is survived by Janet, his wife of 67 years, four children- Kevin (Sylvia) Deuel of Miami, FL; Tammy (Kevin) Kinney of Fallbrook, CA; Douglas (Mellony) Deuel of McKinney, TX; and Mark (Karen) Deuel of
Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
