

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James F. Moore, who left this world on Tuesday, October 10th 2023 at the age of 88. Jim, as he was affectionately known, was a cherished resident of Texas since 1995, and his life was one filled with a diverse tapestry of rich woven accomplishments, marked by an unwavering devotion and connection to his family, friends, and community.
Jim was born on July 15, 1935, in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert "Tut" and Mary Frances Moore. He embarked on a remarkable journey through life, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered along the way. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA (home of the Nittany Lions) with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. An ardent supporter of all things Penn State, he especially followed wrestling and football.
Commencing his professional career at Stouffer Restaurant Corporation, Jim steadily ascended the ranks in management. He further advanced his career as Vice President of Henrici’s Steak and Lobster. His impact on the food and beverage industry was significant, spearheading and expanding many restaurant chain concepts and profitable dinner chains across several restaurant corporations while living in many states with his family, including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Kansas, Virginia, and California before settling down in Texas. Culminating his professional career as President of Restaurant Enterprise Group (formerly Far West Concepts), a dinner-house company boasting 115 restaurants, including esteemed establishments such as Charley Brown’s Steakhouse, Rueben’s Steaks & Seafood, Baxter’s Grill, and El Torito, among others.
Beyond his corporate ventures, Jim founded Moore Ideas, Inc. utilizing his experience as a Food & Beverage Consultant, and captivating his audiences as a keynote speaker at many industry events. In 1997, he penned the engaging book, “First You Slay the Dragon, Overcoming Leadership Myths” that became the cornerstone of his inspirational talks.
Recognized for his outstanding contributions, Jim was invited by the Director of the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Recreation Management at Penn State to become one of the charter members of the school’s National Advisory Board. He served in that capacity for about 8 years. Additionally, was appointed as a charter member of the International Advisory Board by the Dean of the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV) and former director Penn State, where he dutifully served for 12 years until 2010. His deep and expansive experience in the food and beverage industry was especially valuable to our Board and to the many students he counselled.
Honored as a Penn State Alumni Fellow and the recipient of the College of Health and Human Development's Alumnus of the Year award in 1998, he remained a proud and accomplished alumnus of his alma mater.
While retired, Jim’s dedication to education remained steadfast, as he became a beloved substitute teacher at the High School level. His dedication to his students and the faculty earned him the adoration and respect of all who crossed his path and was even asked to teach a public speaking class at Coppell High School on a regular basis. His influence extended to the realm of sports, where he generously contributed his time to assist the school’s wrestling team, leaving an indelible mark on the development of young athletes. He was not just an educator but a mentor, inspiring countless young minds. Jim's love for sports extended to his own youth, where he played basketball and football in high school. His passion for college football, particularly his alma mater, Penn State, never wavered.
Jim's profound love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Anna Moore, who stood by his side through every triumph and challenge. He is also survived by his children, Elizabeth Moore, Scott Moore, and Rebecca (Moore) Lewis, along with his son-in-law Vince Lewis. Although his son Robert (Bobby) Moore preceded him in death, his memory is cherished and lives on.
Jim's legacy is perpetuated through the lives of his grandchildren, Kayla (Moore) Morant (husband John Morant), Hayden James Moore (wife Alix), Teddy Moore, Alison Lewis, Peter Lewis, Elliott Moore, and his great-granddaughter, Lyla Morant.
James F. Moore touched the lives of many with his wisdom, dedication, and love for both his family and his community. He will be remembered as a remarkable father, husband, businessman, teacher, coach, author, and family man. His optimistic spirit, encouraging words, and the cherished moments he shared with his family and friends will forever serve as a wellspring of inspiration to all those privileged to have known him.
