

Lylia Marie Kaplan was born 27 August 1931 in New Iberia, LA. to Louise Irma Louivere Piland and Francis James Piland. She was married to Martin Norman Kaplan on 30 October 1954 at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in the Diocese and Borough of New York. She proceeded her husband Martin, who passed away on 6 November 2003.
Lylia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Paul David and Darlene Gwen Kaplan, grandsons David John and Alice Kaplan, Joshua Bradley Kaplan, granddaughter Danielle Naomi Kaplan, and great-grandson Michael Boi Kaplan; her sister Myrtle Louise Workman, nephews Edsel Workman (godson), Richard Piland, Mark Workman, Ronald Workman, Robert Piland, Alan Piland, Robert Bennett, Michael Bennett, Steven Bennett (godson), Paul Bennett, and niece Jessica Pruitt and their individual families.
She is preceded in death by her brother Francis James Piland, sister Brenda Ann Bennett, and niece Anna Louise Piland.
Lylia graduated from Sulphur High School, in Sulphur, LA., in 1949 having worked as a Laboratory Technician at the Lake Charles, LA.-based “Firestone Chemical Company” before moving to New York City in 1953. She lived in New York City before her betrothal, later living throughout the New York Metropolitan area before moving to Plano, TX. in early 1981. Lylia was a long-time parishioner at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church and an active participate in her “One-Day-At-A-Time” (ODAAT) AA support group.
Lylia was a very active homemaker, community volunteer, charitable donor, and patron and lover of all arts and music.
