

Mary Lynn was born in Joplin, MO, on January 12, 1943 to Burrell Lee and Mary Lee Kitto Shaw. As a three-year-old she moved with her family to El Paso, TX. She attended El Paso schools and graduated from Burges High School in 1960. Mary Lynn played tennis, sang in the choir, and received many honors while at Burges.
Mary Lynn chose North Texas State College (UNT) to continue her education. In her second year she met the love of her life, Jim Murrell. Their love story enjoyed over 59 years of marriage. Their love of being outside had them fishing, boating, hunting, camping, hiking, and backpacking. In retirement years they added touring in their motor home and giving over 3600 volunteer hours to our National Parks.
Mary Lynn worked as a corporate secretary, City of Plano, in accounting, and as District Director for Congressman Sam Johnson, first in the Texas State House and then US Congress. She retired in 2006.
Mary Lynn was a lifelong Methodist who knew her Lord and Savior, a member of First United Methodist Church of Plano, the Chancel Choir, and the 11th Hour Class.
Mary Lynn is survived by her husband, Jim Murrell, son, Jason Murrell, sister, Leclair Shaw Reeves, three grandsons, a great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, James Lee Murrell.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 2pm in First United Methodist Church, 3160 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX 75074.
