

Samuel Creed Gholson, age 91, passed away on September 12, 2010 in Richardson, TX. He was born on July 15, 1919 in Holly Springs, MS to Dr.Norman and Eliza Gholson. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mary Caruthers Berger, Daniel Penick Gholson and Agnes Anne Gholson. He is survived by his children, Eliza Gholson of Dallas, TX, Norman Gholson of Washington D.C.; granddaughter, Summer Gholson of Dallas, TX; niece Betty Berger of Plano, TX; great-nephews, Bill Stone of San Diego, CA, Mike Berger of Plano, TX and Allen Mays of Allen, TX; and 6 great-great nieces and nephews. Sam was a graduate of Washington and Lee University, The Pennsylvania Academy of Art and The Maryland Institute. Sam was an artist, philosopher, writer and teacher. A collection of his paintings and sculpture is in the Marshall County Historical Museum in Holly Springs, MS. Sam will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Funeral Service will be held at Ted Dickey Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 3:00 pm. Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs, MS. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the SPCA.
